Chris Paul now plays for the Golden State Warriors, after years of performing for the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, and more. He has played for some of the best teams and with a few of the best players in NBA history. But there was a time when he almost played alongside LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat.
Sitting down on "The Why with Dwyane Wade" podcast, Paul opened up about how he nearly joined the Heat during the height of their success. Wade, Paul, and James had a phone call where they spoke about who would do what on the team and how they could earn a lot of wins.
"We was talking about who was going to have the ball in their hands, how it's going to work," Paul said.
Apparently, the plans all fell apart because they couldn't agree on who would be the number three. Both Paul and Wade wear jerseys adorned with that number.
"You were older; you could have just worn 33," Paul told Wade during the podcast. "You were older than me."
It's unlikely that a potential deal really fell through because everyone disagreed on who was wearing which number. In reality, a trade such as this would require a lot of commitments from the front office and they may have not agreed to them.
If Paul would have joined the Heat, he could have seriously helped the team find a ton of success and, of course, he might also have a championship ring today. At the same time, how would he have fit in the lineup, especially with Wade tackling most ball-handling responsibilities during that time?
