Buyout market: After the 48 hours to come off the waiver wire after being cut by the Toronto Raptors on the last day of the transfer window, Spencer Dinwiddie's decision on his new NBA destination has been made: the player will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The news has been advanced by Shams Charania of The Athletic. The 30-year-old point guard will join the Angelina franchise to become the key reinforcement of the team in order to compete for playoff qualification, and together with LeBron James, Anthony Davis and company, fight for the NBA championship ring.
It's safe to say that Spencer Dinwiddie's signing with the Lakers was an open secret. This past morning he was already watching the Darvin Ham-led franchise's game against the New Orleans Pelicans along with Rob Pelinka, and according to Dain Woike of the L.A. Times, he was in the locker room greeting some of the players.
On the other hand, there will be no return of Dinwiddie to Dallas Mavericks, where he played in the 2022/23 season, and that was the other franchise interested in signing him. Thus, the point guard will wear the jersey of his fifth team in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers are the last of a list of franchises in which Spencer Dinwiddie has played, passing through Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, the Mavs themselves, and finally, again the Nets.
This season, with Brooklyn, Dinwiddie has averaged 12.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game in 48 games, all of them as a starter, numbers below what is expected for a player of his qualities.
