It’s been a struggle all season for both teams in tonight's matchup, but this game was determined by the best player on the court. That player is Stephen Curry, as he led the Golden State Warriors to a 109-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center.
This season has been a disaster for the Golden State Warriors, as they had championship aspirations coming into the year and are currently outside of the play-in tournament heading into February. The Dubs made a big offseason move, trading away Jordan Poole for veteran Chris Paul to help take some load off the big 3. However, this move hasn’t led to the success that the organization imagined. CP3 has missed games due to injury, Draymond Green has missed multiple games with suspensions, former All-Star Andrew Wiggins has regressed, and sharpshooter Klay Thompson just can’t seem to find his rhythm this season. The only bright spot is superstar Stephen Curry and to an extent, 3rd year forward Jonathan Kuminga but even he has some turmoil with head coach Steve Kerr. This are chaotic out in the Bay Area and this is surprising considering they just won the championship 2 seasons ago. All eyes will be on them this trade deadline to see if they make any moves to turn things around.
The Baby-Faced Assassin did his thing as usual, scoring 29 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Jonathan Kuminga had an all-around game, finishing with 28 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 2 blocks. Rookie Brandin Podziemski had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists.
For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Nic Claxton had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 7 blocks while Mikal Bridges finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
This win improves the Warriors to 22-25, which makes them 12th in the Western Conference. Golden State is now 1 game behind the Utah Jazz for the 10th seed. They are 5-5 over their last 10 games and will play on Wednesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.
On the other hand, this loss drops the Nets to 20-29, which makes them 11th in the Eastern Conference. Brooklyn is now 1.5 games behind the 10th seeded Atlanta Hawks and is 4-6 over their last 10 games. Their next game will be tomorrow night against the Dallas Mavericks.
