The NBA regular season is almost over and some teams are rising to the top while others are falling behind. Then there are some teams who have been bad all season long. But even those teams have something to be excited about.
This one is a no-brainer. The Spurs might be one of the worst teams in the association but they also have the best rookie in the league and one of the most promising players in NBA history: Victor Wembanyama.
During his first season in the league, Wembanyama has averaged 20.7 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and a league-high 3.5 blocks per game. He has shown tremendous growth in only a few months and has increased his offensive game while already one of the best defensive players in the NBA.
This season featured one of their worst track records ever but the Spurs will still end the year happy.
Portland's first season in the post-Lillard era has not been a good one but there are some glimmers of hope.
Surprisingly, DeAndre Ayton is looking much better toward the end of the season than he did at the beginning. He has become more comfortable on the court and is now averaging more than 20 points and 12 rebounds per game on 63% shooting. Compared to the start of the season and his 13.1 points per game then, that's a sizable improvement.
There are other bright spots on the roster, such as Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe, and even troubled rookie Scoot Henderson. This team could be special in a couple of seasons.
The Detroit Pistons literally broke NBA records this year because of their incompetence but the team is not a totally lost cause.
Cade Cunningham is finally coming into his own with the Pistons. Even as his team faced the worst odds and experienced painful loss after painful loss, Cunningham still looked really good, averaging 22.9 points, 8 assist, and 4.5 rebounds in 32.9 minutes per game since mid-December. Cunningham has found his rhythm and found his game and the Pistons have a promising future because of him.
