These 2 teams aren’t playing for much as both squads have been eliminated from the playoffs, but it was still an entertaining game. Victor Wembanyama put on a show, however it wasn’t enough as his San Antonio Spurs came up short to the Memphis Grizzlies 99-97 at Frost Bank Center.
Wemby has been having an unbelievable rookie season and is already looking like one of the best players in the NBA. He is dominant on both ends of the court and is truly an elite franchise player. The Spurs have a building block for their future and will look to add pieces around him to contend within the next few years.
The Rookie of the Year favorite finished with an amazing stat line of 31 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks. Devin Vassell scored 27 points while Tre Jones contributed 16 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Jeremy Sochan had 6 points, 10 boards, 4 steals, and 1 block.
Jaren Jackson Jr. scored a team-high 28 points to go along with 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Santi Aldama had 15 points and 13 rebounds while GG Jackson recorded 14 points and 8 boards. Scotty Pippen Jr. provided 18 points and 4 steals off the bench while Jake LaRavia had 15 points.
Memphis improves to 24-47 with this win and now hold the 7th best odds for the top pick in the 2024 draft, where they’ll look to add another young prospect to their core. They are 4-6 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Denver Nuggets on Monday.
San Antonio drops to 15-55 with this loss and now has the 3rd worst record in the NBA. They are continuing to develop their prized possession Wemby and will look to give him help in the off-season. The Spurs are 3-7 over their last 10 games and will face off against the Phoenix Suns tomorrow.
