2023-24 is officially completely over for the Golden State Warriors. After their loss to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night, Steph Curry and his team are set to face multiple months of introspection, examination, and some potentially huge changes.
The front office wants to get Curry at least one more championship before he retires in a few years but it isn't clear how that is possible. The team has very limited options. Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson are delivering diminished returns, with Thompson entering free agency and Green's on-court antics repeatedly hurting the team.
Meanwhile, the Warriors don't own their first-round pick in the upcoming draft. It'll likely be converted to a pick for the Portland Trail Blazers, meaning Golden State will come up empty-handed in June.
They are also strapped for cash, meaning they don't have the necessary funds to land another superstar player to perform alongside Curry.
But just because their options are limited doesn't mean they have none. They could negotiate some trades in order to accumulate the talent they want. Andrew Wiggins, Chris Paul, and multiple other players could be moving to new teams in the offseason.
General Manager Mike Dunleavy has a tough task ahead and a lot is riding on the choices he makes. Things are incredibly dire for the Warriors right now and they don't have a lot of ways to make things better, especially soon.
The dynasty that we have all known may be over but the Warriors might find a way to score more success before Curry retires. However, it won't be easy.
