The Los Angeles Clippers have been one of the best teams in the NBA this season. After a troubling start to the year, they are now the fourth seed with a 30-15 record and have won eight of their last ten games. Because of that, it's unlikely they will want to commit to major changes at the NBA trade deadline. But they do have a couple of players they might deal away.
The team is gauging the trade market value of both Bones Hyland and PJ Tucker, players who have spent less than a year with the Clippers.
Hyland came to the Clippers last season and was initially doing quite well, recording 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists during his first few months with the team.
Those numbers have dropped to 6.4 points, .9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 2023-24. Of course, he has also lost time on the court, too, going from 18.9 minutes per game last season to just 13.7 this year. The big reason for that is the acquisition of James Harden at the start of the season. Harden is the primary ball handler for the team and that has limited the importance and need for Hyland.
Meanwhile, Tucker came to the team at the start of the season with Harden and has hardly played at all. He is averaging just 1.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and .7 assists per game. He has publicly stated his frustration with the limited play time and has pleaded to do more. It seems like the Clippers aren't interested in giving him more time with the ball but are intrigued at the prospect of trading him.
No one knows what the Clippers will get in exchange for Hyland or Tucker or if they will trade them individually or as a package deal, but it seems like they will definitely ship both players out soon.
