There are a matter of hours before the NBA regular season comes to an end and things are going to come down to the wire.
On Friday night, the
Los Angeles Lakers barely snuck by the surprisingly strong
Memphis Grizzlies. During the game,
LeBron James had 37 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists while
Anthony Davis posted 36 points, 13 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Following that win, the Lakers claimed a strong hold on the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Ahead of them are the
Phoenix Suns, while the
Sacramento Kings and the
Golden State Warriors sit right behind them.
They could steal the seventh spot in their conference if they win their last game of the season and the Suns lose their final match on Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The seventh spot would be hugely consequential for the Lakers, giving them home-court advantage in next week's Play-In Tournament.
Speaking after the game, Davis sounded confident about his team's chances.
Davis said:
"I think we're in a great place. At the end of the day, no matter where you are in the standings, you still have to win... That's our mindset. No matter where we are, we just got to win."
The Lakers have just one more game this season, against the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pels won't make it easy because they are also in a bitter fight for their seeding in the West.
