The Philadelphia 76ers are in the middle of a rather succesful season. Despite their superstar center, Joel Embiid, went down with a knee injury and missed nearly two months of action, the Sixers managed to remain in the fight for a direct playoff spot as Embiid took his time to fully recover. However, Philly does not have time to loose and in order to keep Joel happy with the franchise, the frontoffice is preparing an offer for one of the NBA's best players: Paul George.
The rumor is that the Sixers hope that Paul George declines his $48.8 million player option with the Los Angeles Clippers, something that most likely will happen despite LA's result in this campaing.
PG was expected to sign a new monster contract with LA, as Kawhi Leonard did in January. The Klaw re-signed with the Clippers a three-year, $152.4 million contract.
Philadelphia has a big summer ahead. They only have Joel Embiid and Paul Reed under contract for the next season. Tyrese Maxey will be a restricted free agent with a small cap hold. With some contracts ending, the Sixers could clear enough cap space to make a max offer to the 9-time All-Star.
It seems that everything will depend on how good (or bad) the Clippers season end up being. They are destined to face Luka Doncic's Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs. LA has been struggling lately, the Mavs on the other hand, are arriving to the postseason looking as sharp as ever.
A wild offseason awaits after the upcoming playoffs.
