Kyle Kuzma's name revolved around
Dallas Mavericks' front office for quite some time before the
trade deadline. Although Dallas ended up getting two key reinforcements, both Dallas and the
Washington Wizards came very close to finish a deal to join Kuzma and
Luka Doncic under the Mavs uniform.
According to The Athletic's sources, while there were many rumors mentioning the Washington Wizards' intention to trade Kyle Kuzma, the truth is that the Capital City franchise only came close to accepting one offer.
That offer had come from the Dallas Mavericks. But the Wizards wanted something more in exchange for their star player. Apparently their goal was to get at least two first-round draft picks to trade the player.
In the end, the Mavericks decided on PJ Washington and
Daniel Gafford. The Wizards value Kuzma's talent and ability on the court, but also all the intangibles that the former champion with the Lakers contributes off the court.
Kuzma's contract drops each year, decreasing from $23.5 million for 2024-25 to $21.5 million in 2025-26 and $19.4 million in 2026-27.
