The Los Angeles Lakers legendary centre
Shaquille O'Neal has
seemingly agreed with the three-time NBA All-Star
Gilbert Arenas’ claim about
Denver Nuggets star
Nikola Jokic’s claim to become NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP)
this season.
The 29-year-old is currently leading in the official
NBA MVP
rating charts this season ahead of the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the
Oklahoma City Thunder, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Luka
Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks and Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics.
O'Neal, who is often regarded as one of the greatest players
in the history of the NBA and won the season MVP award in 2003, recently reposted
a video from Arenas where he stated that if Jokic becomes the MVP this season,
it will be ‘statistically’ the ‘worst’ winner of such an award in the last 40
years.
"We can say whatever we want, but when Kobe's team was
10th, they didn't give it to him,” he said in his podcast. “Just like they
didn't give it to every other player who had a great season, but didn't have a
great team success...Y'all fuc**** it up, not me.
"When Jordan should have won seven of those
motherfu*****. LeBron should have had bunch, Shaq should have had
bunch...because of people like Mike Greenberg are voting, and you guys are
changing the narrative on how you guys want.
“Jokic is probably, statistically, when it comes to overall
game, the worst MVP winner…in the last 40 years. When you are talking about
MVP, the people who won the MVP, their team was first and second place.”
Jokic is having a
fabulous season for the Nuggets where he is contributing 26.5 points per game
which is the eighth best in the competition. To go with that, he is also
contributing 12.4 rebounds (fourth best) and nine assists (third best) per game
this season.
