For the last few weeks, there have been a number of NBA trade rumors swirling around Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks. The star guard reportedly has a chance to be on the trade market this summer and multiple teams are eager to sign him.
Young has remained silent about any possible moves, until now. Speaking to the press this weekend before the All-Star Game, Young got very honest about his desire to stay in Atlanta with the Hawks but the possibility of him possibly leaving.
"The best players in the game have been traded. I mean some of the few lucky ones have been blessed to be drafted in situations where they win championships and it all be perfect for them, they can stay in that one situation forever and that is what I wanted to do with Atlanta, but who knows?” Young said.
He continued: “It's this type of league where things change and things happen, but obviously my mindset is staying in Atlanta right now, I don't get caught up in the rumors and all that stuff, my contract is locked in for a couple of years and I don't have very much to say about it right now."
With this statement, Young made it clear that he desires to remain with the Hawks but he also knows that leaving the team isn't out of the realm of possibility.
There is a chance that the team's front office decides to part ways with Young, even if he wants to remain in Atlanta. The team has struggled to make a dent in the Eastern Conference for the last couple of seasons and it's clear that something has to change.
In fact, there is a chance that both Young and Dejounte Murray leave the Hawks in the offseason, which would radically shake up the team, but possibly for the best.
Young has been linked to both the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. But if he leaves Atlanta, other teams will step up and try to sign him.
