All star break update from Ben Simmons
The All-Star Break is a chance for NBA players to kick back, relax, recharge, and prepare for the second half of the season. But some people are taking issue with the vacation plans of Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets.
Simmons posted a video on TikTok of himself enjoying island life, possibly in Jamaica. In the footage, the former number-one draft pick is seen eating delicious food, seeing the sights, and enjoying some paddleboarding and fishing.
This wouldn't be an issue for most people if it weren't for the fact that Simmons has only played in 12 games so far this season, averaging just 6.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. Injuries have again hobbled the player and he has only played in six games since the start of 2024.
Simmons was absent during his team's 50-point dismantling by the Boston Celtics on February 14. For that game, he was suffering from yet another knee injury.
Injuries have surrounded Simmons for years now. Since coming to the Nets at the start of last season, he has only played in a total of 54 games. Of course, his move to Brooklyn came after he sat out all of 2021-22 because of a holdout situation with the Philadelphia 76ers and another back injury.
At the start of his career, Simmons was seen as one of the most promising players in the league. he even won Rookie of the Year in 2018. But he has steadily declined over the last few years due to disagreements with his teams and a slew of injuries. Some are wondering if he will ever be fully healthy again.
The Nets are currently trying to climb higher in the Eastern Conference standings and while Simmons deserves time off like everyone else, some loyal Nets faithful are upset at him for enjoying time in nature when he should be spending time at the gym.
