On Tuesday night, Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks earned his 20th triple-double of the season with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists against the Golden State Warriors.
That amazing feat made the Mavericks star join both Domantas Sabonis and Nikola Jokic as the third player with 20 or more triple-doubles this season. Sabonis has notched 26, while Jokic has earned 20.
That means that 2023-24 is the first season in NBA history that three players have recorded at least 20 triple-doubles.
To make this accomplishment even more exciting, the three players are all foreign-born from Europe, showing just how important players from Europe have become for the league.
The NBA has seen an explosion of triple-doubles over the last few years, led by Russell Westbrook, who still has the most in league history.
Earning a triple-double is extremely hard and it used to be a rare feat. These days, more and more players are achieving it often.
Because of how often players are creating triple-doubles, some analysts fear that the stat is losing some of its importance. But there is no denying how impressive it is.
These are three of the best player in the NBA right now and their ability to all earn more than 20 triple-doubles this season proves that.
