The
New Orleans Pelicans didn’t have anybody represent their
team in the All-Star game this past weekend, and they took it personally. Not
only one, but 2 of their stars got snubbed from the big game and it was only a
matter of time before they proved it was a bad decision.
In tonight's matchup,
Zion Williamson was on a mission as he
proved why he’s a top player in the league. He led the New Orleans Pelicans to
a dominant 127-105 victory over the
Houston Rockets at Smoothie King Center.
The first overall pick in 2019 finished with 27 points and 9
assists. Fellow frontcourt mate Jonas Valanciunas ended with 20 points and 14 rebounds
while
CJ McCollum scored 28 points with 4 made threes. Herb Jones scored 17
points with a career-high 7 steals and Trey Murphy III started for the injured Brandon Ingram, and he
finished with 13 points.
For the Rockets,
Alperen Sengun had 20 points and 9 rebounds
on 67% shooting. Amen Thompson scored 22 points off the bench to go along with
3 blocks. Jalen Green struggled tonight, finishing with 10 points on 21%
shooting.
This win improves the Pelicans to 34-22, which makes them 5th
in the Western Conference. New Orleans is now 3 games behind the 4th seeded Nuggets
and 1 game above the 6th seeded Mavericks. They are 8-2 over their last 10
games and currently on a 4-game winning streak. They will look to keep things
going tomorrow night when they face off against the Miami Heat.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Rockets to 24-31, which makes
them 12th in the Western Conference. Houston is now 4 games behind the 10th
seeded Warriors for the last spot in the play-in race. They are 3-7 over their
last 10 games and currently on a 2-game losing streak. Their next game will be tomorrow
night against the Phoenix Suns.
