Although this 2024 the
NBA Draft won't be as predictible or as hyped as the year before, where Wemby was the unanimous 1st pick, there's definitely talent that's hoping to arrive to the league and change the recent history of the team who select this youngsters.
Cody Williams (OKC's Jalen Williams' brother) is looking like the possible first pick, followed nearly by some international talents, like
Zaccharie Risacher or
Alex Sarr. In addition,
Ja'Kobe Walter and
Carlton Carrington complete the top 5 and join Williams as USA's homeborn players.
1 Cody Williams (Small forward/Point guard)
The most upside of any player in this year's draft. Cody is listed as 6-8, 190 pounds, and has a 7-3 wingspan, absolutely remarkable. This is the player's future biotype. He's a versatile big player who can run the point, and has the speed to blow by his defenders. There's some concern about his dedication and toughness, and he still has work to do to solidify a position this high. NBA Comparison: Lamar Odom.
2 Zaccharie Risacher (Small Forward/Power forward)
Risacher has a pure shooting stroke. His mobility, shooting and excellent size (listed at 6-9, 200 pounds) had put him on a radar for a while now. This french young man recently won player of the month after a number of big performances. The downside -according to his detractors- is his lack of toughness and the fact that he shies away from contact. Gaining strength and finding a good situation will be key. NBA Comparison: Franz Wagner.
3 Ja'Kobe Walter (Shooting guard)
The best among the freshmen draft prospects regarding statistics. He has a good shot, good lenght (6-5, 180 pounds) and some combo guard potential. He's putting up numbers that indicate he can be an elite shooter at the next level. Currently playing at Baylor, he’s averaging over 15 ppg on shooting splits of 43.0% from the field, 38.5% from three. His major flaw could be his atheticism. NBA Comparison: Tyler Herro.
4 Carlton Carrington (Point guard/shooting guard)
Carrington is playing in Pittsburgh, at just 18 years old he's averaging 14.3 ppg, 5.2 reb, and 4.8 apg. His strengths are his court vision and passing, but he struggles when attacking and finishing at the rim, and he's not very consistent with his three-point shot. NBA Comparison: Shaun Livingston.
5 Alex Sarr (Center)
Currently playing overseas, this french man has potential to climb up and be the top pick,he has an intriguing skill set with his ability to impact the game with his length and athleticism on both ends, combine with an effective offensive game. He still needs to add a good deal of strenght, but he could definitely be much higher in future tops. NBA Comparison: Mitchell Robinson.
6 Wooga Poplar (Shooting Guard)
An explosive guard with great efficiency on all three splits of shooting, averaging 51% fg / 51% 3ptt / 88% ft, truly elite. Also a good finisher at the rim. Needs to improve his ball handling and his turnovers. NBA Comparison: Devin Vassell.
7 Matas Buzelis (Small Forward/Power Forward)
While not extremely long, this G-League player listed at 6-10, 210 pounds has added more strenght and with his 7-0 wingspan he's an intriguing talent to check out. He stills needs to find more consistency and develop even more strength. He's been putting up very big games recently. NBA Comparison: Austin Croshere.
8 Kanaan Carlyle (Point guard/Shooting guard)
Carlyle is playing at Stanford, and has improved his shooting, now with a polished ISO game and an efficient pull-up scorer. In addition, he possess a great court vision and good passing skills too. NBA Comparison: Anfernee Simmons.
9 Kyshawn George (Small Forward)
The Swiss born wing is known for his versatility and smooth shooting. Currently playing at Miami, his efficiency stats are really impressive. There are still some concerns about him being ready to make the jump to the NBA or not, despite being 20 years old. NBA Comparison: Cameron Johnson.
10 Adama Ball (Point guard/Shooting guard)
Currently playing at Santa Clara Broncos, Bal shows advanced ball handling and passing skills along with a polished shooting stroke. His length and size as a potential combo guard give him a lot of intrigue. He needs to improve his conditioning and speed. NBA Comparison: Jalen Williams.
