Steve Kerr is optimistic that Warriors can climb the standings with a fully healthy squad. "I think we have a real chance here now to put together, you know when Chris [Paul] gets back, the best possible 48 minute effort that we can."
The Golden State Warriors are starting to look better despite not making any big changes at the recent NBA trade deadline but that doesn't mean they won't make some substantial changes in the upcoming offseason. That means they might get rid of some salaries as they attempt to stay relatively close to the upcoming 2024-25 salary cap.
Right now, the team going to be paying more than $174 million in salaries and there are some players guaranteed to come back. For example, there is no chance of Stephen Curry leaving the Warriors.
The Warriors will have to decide what they do with Klay Thompson over the next few months. If he is re-signed, the team will need to ink him to a contract that is less than his current $42 million salary. Based on his output this season, that seems very fair and likely.
There are a lot of questions about the future of Chris Paul with the team. He has an unguaranteed $30 million salary in 2024-25 but many analysts assume that Golden State will attempt to get rid of that contract. So far this season, Paul has averaged 8.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 7.2 assists but he has only played in 32 games because of an injury.
When Paul was signed to the team in the summer, fans were hoping he could be a big difference maker with his years of experience and expertise. Instead, Paul hasn't been able to help as much as expected and that is why his contract could be tossed in the summer.
