The
Chicago Bulls announced this Friday that their promising big man
Patrick Williams, who's been dealing with a left foot injury since January, will need a surgical procedure to fully recover. This means that the power forward will miss the rest of this 2023-24 NBA season.
The bad news keep pilling up for the Chicago Bulls, a team that's been dealing with severe injuries among their key rotation players. The list is almost scary if we start counting from the time that they brought on board DeMar DeRozan, Nikola Vucevic, Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball to play with Zach LaVine, almost three years ago. A team that looked great on court but was rapidly stopped due to health issues.
The team had to re-invent itself with new young players that had to step up and contribute in order to at least try to get into the play-in positions. This was the case for Patrick Williams, drafted with the fourth pick by Chicago in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Williams averaged 10 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while shooting a remarkable 39.9% from beyond the arc in 43 games played this current season. His left foot started bothering him since January 25th, with an initial bone edema, but recently the player underwent routine subsequent imaging which revealed the progression of the injury.
We'll see how this news affect the player's interests in the next
free agency. He will become a restricted free agent this following summer.
