NBA's comissioner Adam Silver, hosted his traditional All-Star Weekend press conference, where he usually shares some news about the league's present and future. Here we bring the most interesting topics discussed.
Adam Silver is known for handling really well his press conferences, providing powerful insights, not affraid of any questions.
When Silver was asked about the league's officiating, he feels "so sympathetic" for players who have missed calls just as he is for officials when they miss a call. In addition, he mentioned being a bit dissapointed about players-officials communication. He's glad to have Andre Iguodala working for the league to improve that relationship.
This is particularly interesting regarding for example what happened a couple of nights ago in New York, when the Knicks suffered a wrong foul call on Jalen Brunson in the last seconds that ended up costing them the game. In fact New York filed a protest about the incident that's expected to have a resolution next week.
About Sabrina Ionescu vs Steph Curry's Three-point duel, and the possibility to increase or integrate more participation of WNBA players in future NBA All-Star games, Silver stated feeling "very satisfied about the impact that WNBA and Women's College Basketball are having and the enormous amount of interest on both leagues is very encouraging moving forward".
Highly anticipated upcoming duel between Ionescu and Steph Curry and it's all due to the phenomenal performance of Sabrina setting a record of 37 points in the WNBA All-Star Three-point shootout. It seems that we might got to watch more events like thise in the future.
On returning the All-Star game to its original format, said "it was partially driven by the players". Actually both the league and the players were in the same page, feeling that the show and the entertaining factor had went a bit far, in detriment of good old classic basketball. Their main objective here is to try to make it more competitive and therefore, more interesting.
The last couple of years the All-Star game was arranged with an All-Star "Draft", instead of the traditional East vs West, format that will be coming back next Sunday.
