The Los Angeles Lakers came into this game on a 2-game winning streak, defeating 2 of the hottest teams in the NBA, the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks. Tonight, they came into the Spectrum Center and defeated the Charlotte Hornets 124-118 with the help of a dominant Anthony Davis performance.
The Lakers have had a disappointing start to this season so far, but things may be turning around. After reaching the Western Conference Finals last postseason, many expected them to be championship contenders this season with more time to gel and play together. However, the opposite has happened, as LA has stuck around .500 for most of the year despite superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis playing phenomenal. There has been some friction between the players and head coach Darvin Ham, and now with the trade deadline just days away there’s been rumors that some of the role players will get traded away to upgrade the roster.
Anthony Davis led the way tonight, finishing with 26 points, 15 rebounds, 11 assists, and 3 blocks on 75% shooting. LeBron James recorded 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists while D’Angelo Russell scored 28 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 6 assists.
For the Hornets, Miles Bridges had a huge game, as he scored 41 points which is a career-high for him. Brandon Miller had another big performance, scoring 33 points while also having 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals. The rookie has been playing sensational basketball lately and is showing the world why he was taken 2nd overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. PJ Washington scored 15 points off the bench to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 assists.
This win improves the Lakers to 27-25 on the season, which makes them 9th in the Western Conference. Los Angeles is 6-4 over their last 10 games and currently on a 3-game winning streak. Their next game will be on Thursday night against the Denver Nuggets.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Hornets to 10-39 on the year. Charlotte is 1-9 over their last 10 games and currently on an 8-game losing streak. Their next game will be on Wednesday night against the Toronto Raptors.
