A battle between the 2 top teams in the Western Conference did
not disappoint, as this game went back and forth from the jump. In the end, Anthony
Edwards was able to lead the
Minnesota Timberwolves past the OKC Thunder
107-101 at the Paycom Center.
Anthony Edwards made a case tonight as to why he should be
selected as an All-Star, as he finished with 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 4
assists on 50% shooting.
Karl-Anthony Towns stepped up as well, ending the
night with 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Defensive anchor Rudy Gobert had
a double-double, hitting all his field goal attempts en route to his stat line
of 12 points and a monstrous 17 rebounds. Gobert has played spectacular as well
this season, proving the haters wrong. On the season Gobert is averaging 13.4
points, 12.4 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks, looking like his former Utah Jazz self.
For the Thunder, All-Star starter
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had
a monster night, but it wasn’t enough. He ended with 37 points, 7 rebounds, and
8 assists with 2 steals on 56% shooting. Jalen Williams scored 20 points, and
it was another rough outing for Chet Holmgren, as he finished the game with 4
points and 7 rebounds, although he did also have 3 blocks.
This was a statement win for the Timberwolves, as for
majority of the season they have been battling for the 1st seed
between the OKC Thunder and Denver Nuggets. This win secures them the 1 seed
for now with a record of 33-14. Minnesota is 7-3 over their last 10 games and
will look to build off this momentum on Wednesday night when they face the visiting
Dallas Mavericks.
For OKC, this loss hurts. After a rough outing yesterday
against the Detroit Pistons, this loss now drops them down to the 2 seed with a
32-15 record. They are currently 1 game behind the Timberwolves for the top
seed in the Western Conference. OKC is 6-4 over their last 10 games and will
try to bounce back on Wednesday night in a matchup against Nikola Jokic and the
reigning champion Denver Nuggets.
