Kevin Durant leads the way as the
Phoenix Suns take care of
business at the Kaseya Center, defeating the
Miami Heat 118-105.
The Suns had 4 players score 19 or more points, led by the efficiency
of Kevin Durant who finished the game with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 1
steal, and 2 blocks on 53/40/100 shooting splits. Durant, a 13-time All-Star, was
named an All-Star starter last Thursday, and it can easily be seen with
averages of 28.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.7 assists on 53/45/87 splits on
the season. Co-star
Devin Booker also had an all-around game, ending with 22
points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Bradley Beal contributed with 19 points, 5
rebounds, and 7 assists, and sixth man Eric Gordon scored 23 points off the
bench.
Jimmy Butler led the way for the Miami Heat, scoring 26
points with 8 rebounds and 4 assists on 58% shooting. Recently acquired guard
Terry Rozier scored 21 points with 4 made three pointers, and former Sixth Man
of the Year Tyler Herro scored 17 points.
This win improves the Suns to 27-20 on the season, placing them
currently at the 6th seed in the Western Conference standings. They
are 1 game behind the 5th seeded Sacramento Kings and 1 game above
the 7th seeded New Orleans Pelicans. The Suns have been red hot,
winning 8 of their last 10 games. They will look to keep this up Wednesday
night when they face off against the Brooklyn Nets.
For the Heat, this loss drops them to 24-23 on the year,
making them the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference. They are
currently 0.5 games behind the 7th seeded Orlando Magic and 3 games
behind the 6th seeded Indiana Pacers. Snagging the 6th
seed would be ideal for Miami, as they will get to avoid the play-in
tournament. However, they proved last season that no matter where they finish in
the standings, they will always be a tough out in the playoffs. Their next game
will be on Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings.
