The Minnesota Timberwolves surprised everyone this year by playing winning defense consistantly. The Wolves were one of the top teams in the Western Conference for the entire 2023-24 season. One of the biggest reasons for their success was the remarkable season that Anthony Edwards played. Being a member of Team USA motivated the young star to elevate his game and the results were truly amazing. Yet, Ant affirms that he's far from reaching his peak yet.
The 2023-24 regular season saw a Minnesota Timberwolves' team rise to a new level, finishing as the third seeded in the always disputed Western Conference. They lost their other big star, Karl-Anthony Towns for almost an entire month and yet, the squad showed character and continue to win without him.
Anthony Edwards was the leader of his team. Even at the young age of 22-years old, Ant-Man embraced that role and fluorished on offense. However his defense shouldn't be overlooked. His athleticism is off the charts and with his big frame, he's able to cover smaller, faster guards and he can maintain his position against bigger players than him as well.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Ant showed how high his confidence is, trusting in his potential and his work ethic to fully reach those expectations:
"I'm probably at like---40% right now. I'm just in year 4, I think people forget that I'm only 22, I'm not even touching my prime yet. I'm still trying to figure out my spots and where I like to go, what side of the floor I want to be on. I feel like I'm just about 40%," said the two-time All-star.
Edwards played 79 games this season, averaging 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists, shooting 46% from the field and nearly 36% from the beyond the arc. Those are excellent numbers and he's given enough evidence of what he can do come playoff time last year, playing wonderfully on last years' first round against the Nuggets.
Edwards stated that he expects to be the best player in the NBA in about two or three years. We'll just have to wait and see how this young star continues to rise and where can he take his promising career.
