The
Boston Celtics had a blowout win on Wednesday night, defeating the Brooklyn Nets 136-86 at TD Garden. They won by 50 points, which is the 5th largest margin of victory in franchise history.
With tonight's victory, the C's head into All-Star weekend on a 6-game winning streak. Despite finishing strong going into the break, head coach
Joe Mazzulla had a different opinion on things.
When asked about how the team currently feels, the Celtics coach said that they were feeling good. However, he warned the media and his players that heading into the break on a winning streak is just as dangerous as going in on a losing streak if you don't handle it the right way.
Mazzulla mentioned that because a team is on a winning streak, players could decide to go into "cruise control" and take days off. While it is important for the players to take care of their body and spend time with family, the head coach also said that it's important to not put their mind off of the end goal during the time off.
It's important to stay in shape and be ready, because once everybody returns it's time to reconnect and reestablish what they're doing. The 2nd year coach said that it's important to handle this situation the right way because momentum could slip and cause the team to collapse if the player's don't have the right mindset.
As for the players, they seem to have understood the message from their head coach.
Kristaps Porzingis mentioned how happy he is in his short time with the Celtics, saying that he's always been smiling and enjoys being here.
Derrick White said that Joe Mazzulla is a great guy, great coach, and he loves playing for him.
Meanwhile, the dynamic duo of
Jayson Tatum and
Jaylen Brown won't be taking much time off, as they will be participating in events during the All-Star weekend.
