Like many NBA stars who have come before him, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics envisions his son someday being a basketball pro someday too.
NBA skills coach Drew Hanlen recently said that he and Tatum discussed a development plan for Tatum's son, Jayson Christopher Tatum Jr., better known as "Deuce."
Deuce is already a huge part of the Celtics culture and has been spotted courtside during numerous games and has appeared in post-game press conferences and in the locker room often too. He has become one of the most beloved members of the Celtics family.
However, Tatum is just six years old so it would be a long time before he ever suits up for Boston or any other NBA team.
Is six too early for a child to start training and honing his skills? Online, NBA fans both ridiculed and praised Tatum for allegedly attempting to guide his son toward a life in the world of basketball.
"He wanna be like LeBron," one fan said, while another said, "Deuce best player in the 2020 Nba Draft." The reactions to Tatum's plans were decidedly split among NBA followers.
The elder Tatum is perhaps having the best season of his career this year, averaging 27.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists on 47.6% from the floor and 36.4% from the three-point line. His Celtics are the best team in the league and they are on their way to another strong playoff run and perhaps a return to the NBA Finals.
Tatum obviously has a few busy months ahead of him but once the summer comes, he might start focusing on how to help his son become the next up-and-coming NBA superstar.
