It was a team effort for the
Brooklyn Nets in this contest, as they were able to work together to defeat the
Philadelphia 76ers 112-107 at Barclays Center led by their midseason acquisition
Dennis Schroder.
These 2 teams have been linked for the past few seasons due to the blockbuster trade involving James Harden and Ben Simmons. At the time, it looked like a good trade for both squads since neither star wanted to be in their current situation. Fast-forward to present day and it looks like nobody came out on top with the trade. The former MVP wanted out of Philly and got traded earlier this season to the LA Clippers while the former Rookie of the Year just couldn't seem to get healthy since stepping foot in New York.
Both teams look completely different and tonight, it was the recently acquired Dennis Schroder who took charge. He scored 20 points and had 8 assists in this game, while Dorian Finney-Smith also recorded 20 points. Nic Claxton had 17 points and 10 rebounds while
Mikal Bridges finished with 15 points. Lonnie Walker IV provided 19 points off the bench.
The 76ers were without Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, so Kelly Oubre led the way with his 30 points off the bench.
Tobias Harris finished with 18 points and 9 rebounds while Cam Payne had 15 points. Kyle Lowry hit 4 threes and ended with 14 points, while Buddy Hield recorded 13 points.
Brooklyn improves to 25-37 with this win and sit just 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Hawks for the final play-in spot. It's been a disappointing season for the Nets and there will be questions this offseason as to what they do with their core of players. They are 4-6 over their last 10 games and will travel to Detroit to face off against the Pistons on Thursday.
This is a tough loss for Philadelphia as they are trying to avoid the play-in tournament. They fall to 35-26 and at the moment, they sit as the 7th seed due to the tiebreaker between them and Miami (the Heat are the 6th seed). The 76ers are just 0.5 games away from jumping up to the 4th seed so anything is still possible with 20 games left in the regular season, but with injuries to their 2 star players it will be a tough challenge to maintain a top 6 seed. Philly is 5-5 over their last 10 games and will play the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night.
