Since coming to the
Brooklyn Nets,
Ben Simmons has only played in 57 of a possible 178 games and has repeatedly been sidelined because of a number of injuries.
He recently returned from his latest physical problem but only played in nine games before he was injured with more back problems. He is now listed as day-to-day and hasn't participated in a game since February 26.
Simmons' agent, Bernie Lee, recently talked to the press about the problems that his client has had and how they have affected him and his future.
“We continue to try and find non-surgical options to allow Ben to move forward on a permanent basis, and that is where this is my responsibility and I am [the] one to blame,” Lee said to SportsNet New York.
Lee then admitted that Simmons's road to recovery has been much longer than expected and that not enough progress has been made.
He said: "When I began working with Ben, I made a commitment to him that I would do everything I could to find the right answers and specialists for him to work with [in order] to move forward from the issues he has been having. Clearly, it hasn’t happened, and that's my responsibility.”
So far this season, Simmons has only played in 15 games and has averaged 6.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. That's a far cry from a few years ago when he was putting up 16.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.7 assists.
The former number-one overall draft pick hasn't played a 60-plus game since the 2018-19 season when he was still with the
Philadelphia 76ers.
Many people are wondering what is next for Simmons. Will he ever be fully healthy again? And if he does fix his problems, will he be playing with the Brooklyn Nets or another team? Several years ago, Simmons was seen as possibly the future of the league but he now looks like a player who just can't stay healthy no matter how hard he tries.
