At this point,
Luka Doncic continually impresses fans and the NBA press with his one-of-a-kind skills. Again and again, he has sunk a number of amazing shots that didn't seem real and possible. On Sunday night, he performed one of his most stunning "circus shots" against the
Houston Rockets.
With the Mavericks up 70-47 with ten minutes go to in the third quarter, Doncic was blocked by Jabari Smith Jr. of the Rockets. Smith was pressing hard on Doncic and keeping him on the perimeter as the Mavericks star attempted to work his way into the paint.
But instead of battling with Smith too much, Doncic just leaned forward and lobbed up a one-handed "scoop shot" from inside the arc. The shot went in and everyone - from the commentators to teammates and fans - was impressed.
As Doncic jogged back down the court, everyone could see a big grin on his face, surely happy with his shot. He was having a lot of fun throughout the night, but his circus shot was the highlight of the game.
He eventually scored 47 points and 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. And the Mavericks were able to climb to the fifth seed in the West with a strong 125-107 win. With just a few weeks to go, the Mavericks are no positioned to push hard into the playoffs because they have been on a terrific run lately.
The most important thing for the Mavericks is to have a great postseason, especially after missing the playoffs last year. But if Doncic is able to perform more shots like this during the postseason, Mavericks fans will be in for a real treat.
