A new edition for this Texan duel took place this Sunday afternoon. Luka Doncic's Dallas Mavericks received the Houston Rockets led by their young star, Dillon Brooks. Last Sunday, the Mavericks defeated Houston on the road behind Luka's 47-point masterpiece. Tonight it was the time for the other Dallas' superstar: Kyrie Irving had a phenomenal game, scoring 48 points. The Mavericks continue to climb up in the Western Conference ladder with this overtime victory 147-136.
The Houston Rockets arrived to Dallas seeking for a victory to keep their hope of sneaking into that 10th play-in position, currently held by the Golden State Warriors.
Jason Kidd's team stopped Houston last week and tonight they did it again. Dallas has had a phenomenal season ending, improving in every aspect of the game, especially the defensive side.
It was an extremely close game, so much that it went to overtime. That was the time when the mommentum shifted in Dallas favour. The Mavs, being a more experienced team, knew exactly when to attack. The offensive power of an Irving-Doncic duo is unparallel and turned out being too much for a Houston team that has a bright future ahead and will learn a lot from this season.
Luka Doncic finished with 37 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, a wonderful game for the slovenian superstar. Still, he was outclassed by Kyrie Irving's masterpiece. The former NBA Champion scored 48 points and 7 rebounds. PJ Washington added 13 rebounds and scored two clutch three-pointers in overtime to help the Mavs win. Dante Exum tied the game with a clutch three and sent it to overtime. The point guard registered 14 points.
Houston resistance was led by Dillon Brooks. The canadian player registered a season-high 29 points. Fred Van Vleet had 24 points and 12 assists and Jalen Green helped with 21 points.
Next Tuesday, Dallas travels to the East to face the Charlotte Hornets. The Mavericks are chasing the fourth spot in the West, currently held by the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Houston Rockets also travel to the East on Tuesday, for their scheduled matchup against the Orlando Magic. Unfortunately after tonight's loss the 10th spot is out of reach.
