On Thursday morning,
Patrick Beverley surprised his fanbase when he informed them on his podcast that he was being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the
Milwaukee Bucks. This was good news for the 35-year-old guard, who is now closer to winning a championship.
However, it also means that he will have to play with a star who he has butted heads with multiple times in the past. Beverley will now be working alongside
Damian Lillard.
Lillard and Beverley haven't gotten along for many years and there have been multiple on-court moments that showed just how much they dislike each other. Perhaps none were as contentious as a moment last season when Beverley, then with the Los Angeles Lakers, had to be separated from Lillard, who was still playing for the Portland Trail Blazers at the time.
That wasn't the first time that Beverley and Lillard nearly came to blows. Multiple instances before that featured Beverley mocking Lillard and his "Dame Time" gesture and Lillard had publicly pushed back against Beverley to the media.
But it sounds like both players are ready to put it behind them. Following the trade on Thursday, Lillard told Chris Haynes, "As for Pat, he brings an edge and a defensive tenacity on the perimeter that we need. There are not many players who bring it on a nightly like him. I look forward to working together. Our past personal issues don’t trump an opportunity to win a championship.”
Beverley echoed that sentiment, saying that he was ready to move past the beef to win a championship ring.
This isn't the first time that Beverley has been forced to work with people he used to criticize or mock. Most recently, he had to walk back statements he said about Russell Westbrook before joining him on the Lakers.
