Dallas Mavericks big man,
Daniel Gafford, is only two field goals away from tying
Wilt Chamberlain with most consecutive field goals made, a record established all the way back in 1967.
After Wednesday night victory, where Daniel Gafford went 5-for-5 to help Dallas Mavericks overcome the Golden State Warriors, he ended up two field goals away from the record established in 1967 by none other than the Big Dipper, Wilt Chamberlain. With one more field goal he could break that record.
He'll have the opportunity to accomplish on Thursday, when the Mavs face the Oklahoma Ciy Thunder. Gafford has been a great acquisition for Dallas, making him one of the biggest and more succesful trades that took place in the trade deadline.
It needs to be said that Wilt needed two less games for that record, but in any case, making 36 consecutive field goals is a feat that most NBA players would be more than proud to accomplish.
Defensively, Daniel has been a force in his team current winning streak, recording 7 blocks yesterday against the Warriors.
After Wednesday's game, Gafford was asked if he was "ever going to miss a shot again" as he enters a possible record-setting night on Thursday, and this is what he said:
"I don't know," Gafford told reporters. "I'm not going to jinx myself [laughs]. As I always say, my philosophy is to be consistent. At the end of the day, just have fun with the game."
Kyrie Irving, Gafford's teammate, took some time to praise the big man as well:
"He's been spectacular," Irving said of Gafford. "He's making our jobs as point guards easier, just setting great screens and getting out early and putting pressure on the rim."
