Austin Reaves is out of the question. The Los Angeles Lakers front office has made it clear. Despite that, the talented shooting guard is more than appealing to acquire, complicating negotiations. Most of the teams involved in trade talks with the Lakers would like to include Reaves on the potential deal.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported that, according to inside sources, the Lakers have consistently conveyed their lack of interest in getting rid of Reaves.
This strategic decision makes sense from several perspectives. At 25 years old, Reaves has proven to be a valuable asset to the team. In addition, his cost-controlled contract provides the Lakers with financial stability and flexibility for future moves, as he is guaranteed for at least two more seasons.
While rumors have linked the Lakers to prominent players such as Dejounte Murray, Zach LaVine and Malcolm Brogdon, the firm stance on Austin Reaves significantly complicates any attempt by the purple and gold franchise to reach a deal before the winter trade deadline.
This season, Austin Reaves is averaging 15.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game for the Lakers, having played a total of 44 games so far, 19 of them as a starter.
