Social media erupted in absolute disbelief after Philadelphia
76ers star
Joel Embiid registered a whopping 70 points in the recent match against
San Antonio Spurs.
The 29-year-old was simply unstoppable on the day as he
single-handedly helped his side secure a much-needed win with a score of 133-122
on Monday.
The performance was even more special for Embiid who
registered this record on the 18th anniversary of Kobe Bryant’s incredible
81-point game for the Los Angeles (LA) Lakers.
Talking about it, the Yaounde-born stated that Kobe was the
reason why he started playing basketball in the first place.
“From the time I started playing, Kobe was my guy,” he said.
“He’s the reason why I started playing basketball. It’s funny, on the same
night, he got 81 and that was my favorite player.”
The performance did not go unnoticed as social media fans
went crazy and called it ‘unreal’ and some even went on to call Embiid
the ‘best scorer in the league’.
Embiid is having the best season of his NBA career where he
is averaging 35 points per game which is now the best in the league. To go with
that, he is also averaging 11.4 rebounds (11th best) and 5.9 assists
(23rd best) in the competition.
