In this back-and-forth matchup, it was anyone’s game until
All-Star
Donovan Mitchell stepped up and sealed the deal. He helped lead the
Cavs to a 108-101 victory over the Grizzlies at FedExForum.
Earlier tonight, Donovan Mitchell was named an All-Star for the 5th
consecutive season. Spida took the league by storm in his rookie season and never
looked back. He has improved his game every year and now he’s averaging 28.2
points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.4 assists while leading the injury-riddled Cleveland
Cavaliers to a 12-2 start in 2024.
Tonight, the 5-time All-Star scored 25 points to go along with his
4 rebounds and 7 assists.
Jarrett Allen had 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks
while Max Strus recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds. Caris LeVert provided a
spark off the bench as he finished with 16 points, 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 2
steals on 60% shooting.
The Grizzlies were led by reigning Defensive Player of the Year
Jaren Jackson Jr. who finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and
3 blocks. Santi Aldama ended with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks
with 4 made threes while Vince Williams Jr. had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2
assists, 1 steal, and 1 block.
This win improves the Cavs to 30-16 on the season, which is 4th
in the Eastern Conference and 0.5 games behind the 3 seeded New York Knicks. Cleveland
is on a 40-game winning streak and will look to keep that going as they face
off against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, for the Grizzlies, this loss drops them to 18-30, which
is 13th in the Western Conference. This season looks like it may be
over for Memphis considering the multitude of injuries to key players, but the
second half of the season will allow their young players to get valuable
playing time while competing for a lottery pick in the upcoming draft. Their
next game will be tomorrow night against the Golden State Warriors.
