The
Cleveland Cavaliers received really good news today. Accordin to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the talented guard could be making his comeback this Friday, when the Cavs will be hosting the
Philadelphia 76ers.
After almost two weeks, precisely since March 16th, Donovan remained sidelined due to a knee injury, and after that, a nasal fracture.
This season has been quite successful for the Cavs, despite them having to play with several team members missing several games. They managed to win without Evan Mobley, Darius Garland and
Donovan Mitchell throughout this campaign. In addition, a key role player such as
Max Strus is still recovering from a knee injury and is expected to return soon.
With all this being said, Cleveland remained in the top Eastern positions but if they really aspire to go for a deep playoff run they need to be in tip-top shape.
Mitchell has been outstanding for the Cavs, earning a new selection for the All-Star game played in Indiana. However, with the new 65-game threshold rule, Donovan won't be able to be eligible for the end-season awards. In 49 games played, Spida averages 27.4 games, 5.3 points and 6.1 assists, shooting 46.8% from the field and 37.3% from three-point range.
With his return, the Cavs could try to put some pressure on the Milwaukee Bucks, who lost an incredible game at home against the Lakers, and are looking a little shaky right now. Cleveland sits on the third spot with a 44-28 record, only two victories behind the Bucks, with a 46-26 record. Both franchises have similar schedules, with a mix of playoff teams and lottery teams as their last rivals before season ends.
