Joel Embiid, the
Philadelphia 76ers superstar and reigning MVP of the 2023-24 regular season has been out recovering from a knee injury for over two months now. With no specific date of return, Sixers' coach,
Nick Nurse, shared an update on Embiid's status today.
Coach Nurse told the media that Joel Embiid has started working on several drills on the court. However, there isn't a certain timeline for him to make his comeback, although there's a very good chance of seeing the talented center playing in the upcoming playoffs or even before the end of the regular season.
Embiid has missed a total of 36 games in the current campaign after the injury, back in January 30th when the Sixers faced the Golden State Warriors. They Sixers miss him very much, throghout this period, they have a 10-26 record.
The rest of the squad has been trying to hold their spot, but without their main weapon and playing in a very competitive Eastern Conference, they've fallen down the ladder.
With a 39-33 record, Philly is in 8th place, this means that they would have to go through the play-in tournament to secure a spot in the playoffs, if the season ended today. They still have chances to earn that 6th spot, currently holded by the Indiana Pacers, just two victories away.
However, if Joel Embiid could come back for the playoffs, the Sixers would be an absolute threat to any of the top teams in the East in a potential first round matchup.
