Donte DiVincenzo has been playing phenomenal basketball as
of late, as he’s scored 20 or more points in his last 5 games. In tonight’s contest,
he led the
New York Knicks to a 123-113 victory over the
Memphis Grizzlies at
Madison Square Garden.
Jalen Brunson has been a spectacular pickup for the Knicks in
the 2022 offseason. The second-round pick was a backup to superstar Luka Doncic
in his first 4 seasons in Dallas, but with a chance at a starting role the 27-year-old
truly shined. He led New York to an Eastern Conference Semifinals appearance in
the 2023 playoffs and this season he’s led them to a top 4 seed, and most
recently without All-Star Julius Randle. The point guard has increased all his
statistics while playing in the Mecca. His averages in Dallas were 11.9 points,
3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists while currently his averages in these past 2 seasons
are 25.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists. Brunson has been playing like a
number one option on a championship team and after getting selected for his
first All-Star game last season, things are only looking up for the guard from
Villanova.
DiVincenzo led the Knicks in scoring tonight with 32 points,
and he also recorded 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block. Leader Jalen
Brunson finished with 27 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. However,
JB went into the locker room with an ankle injury during the 4th
quarter. It remains to be seen what his status is, but New York is hoping it’s
nothing major. Isaiah Hartenstein ended with 17 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists,
2 steals, and 3 blocks.
For the Grizzlies, Vince Williams Jr. led the way with 19 points,
3 rebounds, and 5 assists. GG Jackson scored 16 points off the bench while David
Roddy had 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.
This win improves the Knicks to 33-18, which makes them 4th
in the Eastern Conference. New York is now 0.5 games behind the 3rd seeded Milwaukee
Bucks and 2 games above the 5th seeded Philadelphia 76ers. They are 9-1 over
their last 10 games, but their main concern is the health of all their key
players, especially All-Star Jalen Brunson. Their next game will be on Thursday
night against the Dallas Mavericks.
Meanwhile, this loss drops the Grizzlies to 18-33, which
makes them 13th in the Western Conference. Memphis is 3-7 over their last 10
games and currently on a 6-game losing streak. Their next game will be on Thursday
night against the Chicago Bulls.
