Golden State Warriors veteran
Draymond Green believes that Boston
Celtics star small forward
Jayson Tatum will only win the Most Valuable Player (MVP)
award if he manages to take his team to the NBA championship.
The 25-year-old is one of the star performers for the
Celtics side this season and is one of the key reasons why the side is currently
placed on the top of the Atlantic Division with 43 wins and just 12 defeats.
Those performances did not go unnoticed as there have been
many, especially on social media, who are raising their voice for him to be
in contention to win the prestigious award.
Green was recently quoted in a report where he stated that Tatum
will only be able to become the MVP this season if he manages to take the team to
the title.
"I don't think Jayson Tatum will win his first MVP
until he wins his first championship," said Green. "He's almost being
punished for having so much success as a team early in his career. I think he
went to the Conference Finals in his first five years or something like that.
... It's like they don't respect it quite where they should. I think it's
unfair."
Green is averaging 27.1 points per game which is the ninth-best
in the competition and the best by any Celtic player. That’s not it as he is also
contributing 8.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.
