Former
Minnesota Timberwolves employee has been reportedly arrested
for stealing ‘strategic information’ of the NBA.
Somak Sarkar, who worked as a coaching analyst for the Timberwolves
in the past, was arrested and charged with felony third-degree burglary, that
is according to ESPN.
The 33-year-old has been alleged to be involved in stealing thousands of important documents from the NBA, including the one with ‘strategic
information’ in it.
The report further stated that Sarkar remains in police custody
and that he faces a court hearing on Thursday.
The Timberwolves management has confirmed to ESPN that
they are aware of the allegations but made no further comment on the
development.
As per the report, the whole story started on February 02 when
Timberwolves Executive Vice President Sachin Gupta, who looks after the team's
analytical department, left his hard disk connected to his laptop.
When he returned to the office three days later, the hard
disk was missing. The video evidence collected after February 02 revealed that Sarkar
entered Gupta’s room twice after ensuring that no one could see him.
Following that incident, Sarkar was immediately fired by the
Timberwolves. The report also stated that the hard disk not only consisted of Gupta’s personal information but also had team information including players'
contracts.
