Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks recently injured his hand during a loss to the Toronto Raptors and will have to undergo surgery to repair it. He will be out of the game for at least four weeks as he reocovers.
But one former NBA star hopes that he never returns to the Hawks. DeMarcus Cousins, sitting down with NBA commentator Rachel Nichols, said that he wishes Young would move on from the Hawks.
"I hope this is the last time we see him in a Hawks uniform," Cousins told Nichols. "I feel like his talent is being wasted, his prime is being wasted. Get healthy, get 100% correct whether that is in Atlanta or you know, fingers crossed, the San Antonio Spurs."
He then spoke at length about what Young could do for the Spurs and why that's a partnership he really wants to see.
Cousins said:
"It's a match made in heaven, it just makes sense. This Hawks team is not doing anything for his talent. I take it personal because I was in that situation once and hopefully this offseason, this is the season where he puts his foot down and uses his power and move to a situation that is going to be healthy for him."
Young has indeed been a rumored target for the Spurs this summer. The Los Angeles Lakers have also reportedly been keen on signing the guard. The rumors around Young have made it very clear that he could be leaving Atlanta this summer after years of the team falling short.
As for Cousins, he recently announced that he was formally retiring from the league after years playing for multiple teams throughout the NBA. Although he might not be done playing professional basketball, his time with the association is over.
