Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević, passed away at the age of 46 after suffering a heart attack in Salt Lake City yesterday. The league announced the postponement of two consecutive Warriors games, including the game against the
Dallas Mavericks this friday, as a result of this tragic loss.
Milojević's abrupt death sent ripples of shock through the basketball world, generating immediate expressions of sympathy from players, coaches and fans alike. The Warriors' scheduled game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday was also postponed prior to the announcement of Milojević's passing.
Veteran coach was hospitalized the night before his death after suffering a heart attack. His three-year stint with the Warriors included a standout achievement as part of the 2022 NBA champion team.
News of Milojević's death inspired moments of silence before NBA games, and prominent players, such as Luka Doncic of the Mavericks, paid tribute to the late coach. Doncic shared on social media, "Rest in peace, Deki."
Other players, such as Warriors rookie Brandin Podziemski, remembered Milojević fondly. Podziemski wrote on social media, "You changed my life in such a short time. The most important thing you said to me was to just smile. Your joy and laughter will be missed forever. Shine down from heaven on us."
Before joining the NBA, Dejan was a three-time MVP in the Adriatic League and coached in Serbia and Montenegro, including working with a young star like Nikola Jokic. The Warriors hired Milojević in 2021.
A rescheduling date for the postponed games has not yet been announced.
