Jalen Green of the
Houston Rockets has been doing amazing things for his team lately, averaging 29 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 44% from the field during his team's impressive nine-game winning streak. Since the departure of injured
Alperen Sengun, Green has looked like the team's strongest and most reliable player.
That means Houston's front office is probably breathing a sigh of relief that they didn't commit to a proposed trade that they thought of last month.
Shams Charania reported that the Rockets called the
Brooklyn Nets about a potential trade that would have sent Jalen Green and multiple first-round picks to Brooklyn in exchange for
Mikal Bridges.
"That deal was not accepted by the Nets," Charania said, before adding, "And now look..."
No one knows how the Rockets would look now if they would have moved forward with any trade that lost them Green, but there is no doubt that he has been playing phenomenal basketball lately. Meanwhile, while Green has been scoring nearly 30 points a night, Bridges has been averaging 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists for the Nets. Those aren't bad numbers but the Rockets are certainly happy that they have Green instead of Bridges.
Partly because of the great work of Green, the Rockets have been surging lately and are now just a half-game behind the Golden State Warriors for the tenth spot in the West. That means that in a matter of weeks, Green could be enjoying the Play-In Tournament and, possibly, his first run in the playoffs.
