The
San Antonio Spurs' young sensation
Victor Wembanyama is
having a fabulous season by every standard. The 20-year-old is already regarded
as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing in the competition.
Wembanyama’s performances became so noticeable, largely
because of how poor Spurs have been throughout the campaign as they are placed at
the bottom of the Western Conference table with just 16 wins and 56 defeats.
The Le Chesnay-born has been registering 20.7 points per
game, the best by any Spurs player this season. To go with that, he is also
contributing 10.4 rebounds per game which is the 12th-best in the
competition.
Wembanyama’s best performance this season came in the match
against the Phoenix Suns back in November where he registered 38 points to go
with 10 rebounds and two assists.
Wembanyama’s numbers are just too good to ignore but whether
it will be good enough to make it to one of the
All-NBA team of the year, only time will
tell. However, if he manages to reach there, he will only become the fifth rookie
in the history of the NBA to be selected in that prestigious group of players.
Previously, Larry Bird (1980), Michael Jordan (1985), David
Robinson (1990) and Tim Duncan (1998) were selected for the first, second and
third teams as a rookie player.
