2023-24 hasn't been as good as last season for the Sacramento Kings but there is no doubt that the team is still one of the most promising, exciting, and youthful in the NBA. No matter how the playoffs end, the Kings are a team to watch, with several of the best young players in the association.
One of them is big man Domantas Sabonis, who has had a sensational season from start to finish. This has been arguably his best season to date, with him averaging 19.5 points and a league-high 13.8 rebounds per game. He has also recorded a league-leading 26 triple-doubles, two more than Nikola Jokic's record.
What is it that's driving Sabonis and making him such a talented force on the floor? A number of things, but one of them is likely his insistence on avoiding social media.
Speaking to Adrian Wojnarowski, Sabonis revealed that has stayed clear of social media apps and sites.
"You know me personally. I deleted all my social media [at the] beginning of the season," Sabonis said.
He added, "You know it's been the best thing ever, you don't have to worry about any of that and you just go out there and play your game."
Sabonis said he did this to avoid all the noise and opinions that pop up on social media. "You have your coaches, you have your family, you have your teammates and their opinion is the only one that matters," he said.
Whatever his trick is, it is working and Sabonis is lighting up the scoreboard night after night. He has been a reliable, powerful anchor for the team, singularly focused on pushing them as far as they can go.
In a few weeks, Sabonis might turn his social media accounts back on. Until then, he is going to keep his eyes on the prize in the playoffs.
