Ime Udoka has made some changes to the
Houston Rockets since becoming coach at the start of the season. But one of those changes isn't sitting right with star player
Jalen Green. During the season, Green has seen his minutes and production for the team decline and he's reportedly unhappy about that.
The Athletic's Kelly Iko wrote that Green is "frustrated" with his role on the team in his recent mailbox column, which is adding to speculation about his future with the team.
Iko wrote:
“Green’s frustrations this season have been clear. I was in the building last Friday for one of Houston’s more impressive home wins of the season over the Phoenix Suns. Green was glued to the bench for the entire fourth quarter. He didn’t look happy. This isn’t the first, second or third time that he’s not been on the floor in critical moments. It probably won’t be the last, either.”
Last season, Green averaged 22.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during 34.2 minutes per game. This year, he is putting up 17.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists during 30.3 minutes per game. Although he has started in all 58 games this year, he hasn't been on the floor as much and has grown unhappy with his inability to help the team during important moments.
Green used to be the most important scorer for the Rockets but now Alperen Sengun and
Fred VanVleet are the ones leading the team, which has caused Green to be pushed to the bench more often.
Does this mean that Green will attempt to find a new team to call his own in the near future? That seemed unlikely three seasons ago, when Green was picked as the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. But now that things are changing for the Rockets, Green might want to find a new franchise.
