After a come from behind victory against the LA Clippers in their previous game, the Los Angeles Lakers had another close game, as tonight they defeated the Washington Wizards in overtime 134-131 at Crypto.com Arena behind another stellar performance by LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The King is the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, and at 39 years old he is still playing amazing basketball. While he may not be at the peak of his powers, LBJ is still a top player in the league and there’s no signs of slowing down.
He is averaging 25.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 7.9 assists in his 21st season. Now, the 4-time MVP is just 9 points away from reaching 40,000 points, and he will hit that milestone in his next game against the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
The 4-time champion ended with 31 points and 9 assists on the second night of a back-to-back. Anthony Davis scored a game high 40 points to go along with 15 points and 3 blocks. D’Angelo Russell chipped in 22 points with 4 made triples while Austin Reaves scored 12 points, including the game-tying shot in regulation.
For the Wizards, Jordan Poole was a flamethrower off the bench, scoring 34 points while hitting 5 shots from beyond the arc. Kyle Kuzma finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Deni Avdija had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Marvin Bagley scored 23 points and Corey Kispert provided 20 points off the bench.
The Lakers improve to 33-28 with this victory, sitting at 9th in the West and just 0.5 games above the Warriors. Los Angeles will do their best to rise in the standings to avoid the play-in so every game from this point on is crucial. Over their last 10 games, the Lakeshow is 7-3 and they will look to keep this momentum up on Saturday against the Denver Nuggets.
Meanwhile, the Wizards fall to 9-50 with this loss, officially dropping to the worst record in the NBA. This has been a rough season for Washington and they will look to improve their roster this offseason. They are currently on a 13-game losing streak and will face off against the Clippers tomorrow night.
