Jason Kidd, Dallas Mavericks Head Coach shared some comments about the Mavs young star, Luka Doncic, during an appearance on 97.1 The Freak's "The Downbeat". In that podcast, Kidd stated that Luka not only surpassed Dirk Nowitzki as the best Maverick ever, but placed him in the same table that Michael Jordan, LeBron and other NBA's legends.
In his own words, Kidd stated, "He [Luka Doncic] is better than Dirk. He's in the atmosphere of MJ, the greatest of all time, LeBron [James], Kobe [Bryant]. And so, just appreciating what this young man is doing at the age of 24 is something Dallas has never seen. I've said it internally: he's better than Dirk. He's doing things Dirk could never do, and now is the opportunity to surround him with the right people to win a championship."
Kidd's bold statement comes on the heels of a historic three-game stretch for Doncic, beginning with a 73-point showing in the win over the Atlanta Hawks. With averages of 48.7 points and 13 assists in those three games, Doncic was involved in a total of 79.7 points per game, placing him in territory only previously explored by legends such as Wilt Chamberlain in 1962.
Despite obvious fatigue, Doncic proved his worth by recording multiple performances of 45 points and 15 assists, becoming the first player in NBA history to do so.
Although the Mavericks have not had much playoff success during the five-time All-Star's career, Kidd is confident that championships will come for Doncic, comparing him even to the early period of Michael Jordan's title-less career.
Adding to his comments, Kidd noted, "This young man is 24 years old and is breaking every record in front of him. He's a winner, and his ultimate goal is to win a championship. He'll get there and not only win one, but he'll win several when it's all said and done."
