The Boston Celtics had a couple of devastating losses to the Atlanta Hawks, but they were able to bounce back with a much needed win as they defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 104-92 at Smoothie King Center behind Jayson Tatum’s efficient performance.
The 26-year-old led the Celtics with 23 points and 9 rebounds on 59% shooting. Jaylen Brown had 17 points, Jrue Holiday scored 13 points, and Derrick White ended with 15 points. All four of these players each hit 3 triples. Kristaps Porzingis provided 19 points, 10 boards, 2 steals, and 4 blocks.
Zion Williamson led the Pelicans with 25 points and 9 rebounds. CJ McCollum scored 24 points with 4 made three-pointers. Herb Jones also hit 4 triples and ended with a total of 18 points. Trey Murphy III had 11 points and 9 rebounds with 3 makes from downtown.
Boston improves to 58-16 with this win. It’s been a rough couple of games for the Celtics as they lost twice to the Hawks in heartbreaking fashion. However, they were able to bounce back and turn things around in this one.
This team has shown that they can be vulnerable at times, so over the last few weeks in the regular season they will hope to build up some momentum that can lead them to dominating the playoffs. The top seed in the East is now 8-2 over their last 10 games and will look to start a new winning streak on Monday against the Charlotte Hornets.
New Orleans drops to 45-29 with this loss and remains the 5th seed in the West. After moving up to 4th for a brief period, the Pelicans have slid down the standings and are now at risk of falling down to 6th, as they only hold a 0.5 game lead over the red-hot Dallas Mavericks.
The team from Louisiana needs to turn things around and continue winning games because if they drop further in the standings, they’re at risk of playing the defending champion Denver Nuggets which is a tough task for any team. They are 6-4 over their last 10 games and will look to bounce back on Monday against the Phoenix Suns.
