Sacramento Kings shooting guard
Davion Mitchell believes the roster is deep enough to deal with the injury to teammate
Malik Monk.
The 26-year-old has suffered a sprained right lateral ligament and will be out four to six weeks. That fact means Monk's season may be over, unless the Kings participate in the NBA playoffs if they qualify either sixth or through the play-in.
Mitchell was recently quoted in a report where he expressed optimism
that the squad strength is good enough to bear the burden of Monk’s absence.
“I think we got a really good, deep team,” said Mitchell about
Monk's absence. “I think that’s what’s good for us. Chris [Duarte] is going to
come in and be more aggressive. When he’s aggressive, he’s really good. Kessler
[Edwards] has played good. It’s always been a next-man-up mentality.”
Monk played an important role for the Kings in the ongoing
campaign. He was a regular in the lineup, featuring 72 times this season. The Jonesboro-born
ended up registering 15.4 points per game, 2.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per
game.
His most impressive outing this season came in the match against
the Minnesota Timberwolves where he registered 39 points to go with four
rebounds and four assists.
