Jimmy Butler was able to play 40 minutes for the
Miami Heat on Wednesday night, but it came at the expense of his health.
Toward the end of the first quarter, Butler received a long pass from his teammate Kevin Love, which led to him drawing a pump fake from Kelly Oubre Jr. of the
Philadelphia 76ers. When Oubre came down from a leap, he landed on Butler's right leg awkwardly.
Following the game, Butler was brutally honest about the injury and what it did to him.
"I hope that I'm fine. I hope that I wake up tomorrow and can still stick-and-move. Right now, I can't say that's the case," said Butler to the Miami Herald.
The bad news came on Thursday morning, as it was announced that Butler had suffered an MCL injury and will be out for at least a few weeks. That meant that his ability to stick and move hadn't gotten any better and the team will have to be without him for the foreseeable future.
During the game, Butler scored 19 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals. He once again showed just how much of a two-way player he is. His skills will be horribly missed by the Heat in the weeks ahead. They now have to beat the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. If they are able to do that, they will then face the Boston Celtics in the opening round of the playoffs.
The idea of the Heat beating the Bulls, and the Celtics, without Butler isn't exciting. They have overperformed and surprised people before but can they do it again?
